Chapter Ten

Shadows

We watched her pace around the house eating her ‘roll,’ as she called it.

And we wished we could do something. To soothe her.

To let her know what was happening.

But we couldn’t.

If only she knew that day when Ironic, the Fate who had visited her, she had also visited us, and warned us of what was to come, told us what we were. Now we knew something that our Goddess didn't.

We wished we could tell her about us. About what she meant to us then. And what she meant to us now.

But more importantly, we wished we could warn her of what was to come.

But we couldn’t. That was why Ironic had told us, because Ironic truly was a bitch. Letting us know what our Goddess truly meant to us, to let us know what she would be forced to deal with. And yet Ironic left us mute but able to have our emotions and eyes to see and feel the heartache headed our way.

At least Fate had allowed us to touch her and let our magic mingle. And all we could hope for was that it was soothing when she needed it to be.

Even if we had to be around the bastard Enlil.

With our memories now intact, we understood why we hated Enlil.

And we did.

Enlil was a man that we had always hated, but then again, we’ve hated anyone that’s been able to be with her, while all we were allowed to do was watch.

But now we knew our hate for him went deeper… darker.

If only she knew the truth.

Maybe one day we would be able to tell her.

We watched as she went to her room to get ready for a night of partying and reaping of souls. Her bronze body shimmered in the overhead light as her clothes fell from her body.

We might not agree with her about Enlil, but we at least agreed with her about one thing.

A mouth would definitely be useful.
